15683 OPE RESP R Pese C MAY OF

Messrs Acton Webb & Ingress Bell to Crown Agents.

19 Queen Anne's Gate, S.W.

22nd April 1901.

Hong Kong

Reg: 26412. 130

Gentlemen,

With further reference to Mr Mossop's letter of 8/2/1901 enclosed in your communication of the 10th inst., we think that all matters relative to the architectural details and decoration &c. of the superstructure should be either designed or approved by us.

We also think it is desirable to leave as long an interval as possible between the completion of the "carcase" and the fixing of the internal joinery, floors, screens, wall-panellings &c. so as to allow the large masses in the walls, piers &c. to get thoroughly dry. With this view a contract for the superstructure in carcase only might first be obtained. The drawings and details already furnished are sufficient for this purpose if supplemented by a specification of the work which Mr Mossop from his local knowledge of materials and methods can prepare better than ourselves.

Meanwhile we will proceed with the few remaining stonework details for the lantern and upper parts of the building which were not included in those previously sent, and with the plaster cornices and other internal plaster work.

The details for the third contract cannot well be made until we receive exact information as to sizes of openings.
